My apologies if this issue has been discussed previously, but I searched and found only one post on this topic, and it had no relevance.

I'm currently investigating Forum software to replace a currently thriving list server. There's a lot of functionality to be gained, but one thing we can not sacrifice are the basic email client use cases for the system.

First, users should be able to post to the forum from an email client. Second, users should be able to receive posts via email from the forum.

Users should also be able, through the admin interface, to select which logical divisions (groups, categories) they will receive. Think of it in terms of pub-sub. Additionally, it would be nice to have each logical division (again groups and categories) supported as an RSS feed.

Is this possible through JForum? If not currently, how many man hours would this functionality require for implementation. And, are there other forum platforms providing this type of interaction?

Thanks in advance,

It is partially implemented in the CVS version of JForum. Grab the source code and take a look in the package net/jforum/api/integration/pop
