"mass email"

Hi,

will there be a mass email function for 2.1.8 or 3.x? Would be nice to send messages to all users of selected groups (or all) - and to have a feature (clientside) that allows them to specifiy if they wish to recieve those mass-emails ...(maybe even customizable by the admin.. so that user might not be allowed to change the setting) ...

It would be great if attachments would be allowed too ...

Of course that's a feature for the admin panel ;)

If it's not planned neither for 2.1.8 nor 3.x ... I might have to do a quick'n dirty solution myself

First, I don't know if a feature like this is going to be implemented or not. But there are a lot of pro-s and con-s for about this that aren't technical in nature.

IMHO, the major one is the need to support user opt out. In some countries, this is a legal requirement for any mass e-mail.

Hence the flag that the user may define if he wants to get messages by the board admin.

And - if written in the terms of usage that there will be mails one mgiht even overwrite this flag by admin settings ^^

In either way, phpbb for instance supports this for quite a while already, and I guess it's in use in about any country - as it's widely spread. One could think of doing the implementation alike then?
