The index only consists of those posts that have been written AFTER the new version has been deployed. How can I trigger the lucene search for the already existing posts?

And - how can one add the lovely "wildcard" feature to it, so that it lists abc and abcd when searching for abc ...

Admin Panel -> Lucene -> Reindex.

If you want to change the search, take a look at the LuceneSearch.java class
