This really has made me reconsider using jforum.

First that anonymous posting was defaulted on, makes me not trust the code base at all. Secondly that it could be 'handled numerous times' yet still be defaulted on.

Not "handled numerous times" but rather "covered numerous times" ... meaning that most people don't bother searching this forum for the answer to their question. Many other questions about other settings and functionality have been asked and answered numerous times too.
