Hmm, that error's new to me. Please describe the environment, versions, and the like of where you are trying to install jForum and more specifics on when this error occurs.

every time i try to install Jforum i get this error:
The following error occurred:

[code=GATEWAY_TIMEOUT] A gateway timeout occurred. The server is unreachable. Retry the request.

Your URL above indicates you are trying to run the installer locally (the "localhost" part). Did you install JForum on your local computer or are you trying to get it to run at GoDaddy?

I tried (unsuccessfully!) to get JForum to run under a GoDaddy Linux hosting account ... they don't offer a "true" java hosting environment ... but just one that will let java applets work.

i used my domain name in place of "localhost" then it might just be godaddy.

I would bet that trying to use GoDaddy hosting is your problem. They have a lot of restrictions, and some whacky paths to the webapps. Even to deploy an application requires that you have to wait overnight .. the deploys happen between 11pm and 1am CST (if my memory serves me correctly). And you cannot request a restart of Tomcat ... ever. You have to wait for the nightly deploys to run.
