Using own authentication

Hi,

We'd like to use our own existing authentication (not authorization as I mistakenly wrote initially) system with JForum ie the users and groups will be defined elsewhere.

Is this possible? If not, what would I have to change to make it possible - could someone point me in the right direction?

Thanks. So I can authenticate the user using my own mechanism, but the users/groups must still be defined in JForum?

Is there any way to look for users and groups in the rest of the app in a different location? If not, are there any hinge points / suggestions as to where I could add this?
