Hi,

We are using JForum 2.1.7. And I was wondering if it would be possible to switch the 'private messaging' and the 'member list' off.
And (that would be even better) have settings that allow on a group based-level to send out private messages and show the member list.

In the current version there isn't any setting for disabling private messages or member listing, so an option is to remove the links from the templates and remove the respective modules from the file WEB-INF/config/modulesMapping.properties (key "pm").

Thanks for the info. I haven't looked into the code yet. But; would it be very complex build some code to allow only certain groups to use PM?

Not exactly. You first have to create a new role section in WEB-INF/config/permissions.xml - use the name you want, as "perm_pm" being a suggestion. Changing the xml will allow you to set the permission at Admin Panel -> Group -> Permissions. Then add the same role name to SecurityConstants.java

In the PrivateMessageAction.java, you just have to use the class PermissionRepository (or something like that) to validate the constraints. Take a look at any other method to see how to check for roles.
