You shouldn't have problems with the 2.0 versions. AFAIK, the 3.0 will require a 1.5 JVM at least. But since 1.4 was release about 6-7 years ago.. you really should consider upgrading/nagging your provider about this. Especially since Sun's new Open source
Java's licenses are better.
With 1.4, I think you might need to add in the activation and mail jars. I think those were still an "extension" for 1.4 and not included. You only need these if you're going to do e-mail notifications, etc.
