What are the advantages/disadvantages of using Struts vs using simple JSP's, Beans and Servlets following MVC?

CoreServlets has a good list of advantages and disadvantages online. In my own words, the advantage of using a framework is to make things easier by shielding you from the low level details.

And others will say that they are a barrier to learning how the low-level underpinnings actually work, which results in a lot of head-scratching when things don't go quite right.
