JSF is based on Inversion of Control.

In IoC, you don't "get" things, you have things given to you. The technical term for that is [i]injection[/b].

The injection mechanism is a lot simpler to work with (once you learn to think inside-out) and doesn't break between JSF releases, since it's based on POJOs and not on framework-specific classes and methods that might change.

Which is one of the reasons why I often state that Rule #1 in JSF is that if you have any code or objects in your JSF code that references anything in the javax.faces classes other than the model wrapper classes, there's a strong change that you're doing it wrong.
