Dynamic Predicates

I'm using RichFaces 3.3.3, and OpenJpa 2.0.1.

I'm using JPA to pull data out of Oracle to display on a RichFaces dataTable. The user can filter the table using inputText boxes at the top. What I'm trying to figure out is how to dynamically add the predicates depending on what columns the user types in. If they type something in column 1 and column 3, I just want those predicates sent. I don't want to have to send a where predicate for columns that haven't been filtered.

Anybody done this or have a good solution for this?
