how the sql:update tag takes the parameters ?

Hi,

I wanted to understand how the sql:update tag is taking the parameter values? I am in need of writing custom tag for sql update operation.
I looked at org.apache.taglibs.standard.tag.common.sql.updateTagSupport but didnt understood how it is retrieving the parameters ?
