My application is successfully storing user uploaded image on a file system and image name in the database. If size of the image is large, it will throw an error. Its Spring 3/ Hibernate application.

Now I want to,

1. Change dimension of the image before storing on file system
2. Rather than throwing an error (if image size is large), I want to compress image to the maximum allowed limit (set by me) and then store it

Can someone please suggest the best way to achieve this or a reference?

Thanks in advance
