Can somebody give me a list of objectives that no longer appear on OCPJP 6. I just spent a whole day reading on every detail of Serializable just to find out it is no longer on the exam anymore. Thanks.

Juxtaposing what the current exam objectives (as of 06/04/2012) asks with K&B's list, I see the following topics are no longer covered in the exam:

  • JavaBeans naming standards
  • Develop code that declares and uses a variable-length argument list
  • Serialization
  • Appropriate use of wait(), notify(), or notifyAll()

  • Please correct me if I've missed anything.

Which is why, at the top of this forum, we have a thread entitled: "How to deal with changing objectives"

    Thank you Mr. Bates.

I surely take that to heart, however, I just wanted to make sure if I see a question regarding those topics, I would drop a line in the comment section. Nonetheless, I would study those objectives as the mock exams do contain all of them.

    Hi Yalvin,

The thing is that technology books are almost always at least a little bit out of date. It takes a long time to publish a book! So, the best thing is to check the Oracle website. What's true for us is true for most authors - when we write a book we have current info, but as soon as we send it to the publisher, things start going out of date.

    hth,

    Bert

As you adequately put, technologies do change in a rapid pace, and I don't think anyone should expect that things remain constant.

This has probably been asked before, but are you guys planning to update your book to match the objectives for OCPJP 7 anytime soon?

Maybe he went home and went to bed. And took this tiny ad with him:
