hi guys,
I have decided to give the SCJP exam within few months. It has been more than 4 years since things got delayed.. anyways, I have got the Kathy & Bates SCJP ebook along with Khalid Mughal ebook. I have read most of the second book, also sometime back covered the first book also. I believe that I am clear about many of the concepts, but when I try to take a mock test, results are hardly encouraging.. I am loosing scope of what I should be doing.. please help me out here... is there any other way?

also, if possible suggest me some other ways of preparation also. I don't know at what level I have reached, but it is certainly not the lowest level..
thanks

I think you are on the right track. I had the same feeling. If you are planning to give the test after a few months, I would suggest you read the book by Kathy Sierra and Bert Bates once again and thoroughly (The best book in my opinion). It wouldnt take much time as it is your second time. It would help making your concepts stronger.
Also about the mock tests, its okay if you dont score well at first. It takes a few mock tests before you can actually start applying your java concepts fluently to solve questions. I think you should continue with the mock tests as well. After you take enough mock tests you will feel confident.

All the best !!

Read SCJP book by kathy sieerra and bert bates... Dont sit with 2 books.. You will just end up in the well of confusion... Even iam preparing for SCJP and now left out with one chapter... After reading each chapter from kathy sierra book try to code. Read 2nd chapter and code the concepts using 1st and 2nd... Like that you will get confident about flow of control.. In short first read and then code & then give mocks..

Hello Chandran.

My advice is the same as of the authors, "give yourself plenty of time to study" and" java is a complex language best learned over time".

Thanks for the replys guys.. I have started K & B book, I will adopt the simple strategy of reading a topic and exhaustive coding on that topic.. the self test exercise given in tht book won't be sufficient, how to get questions which might now come in my mind normally? I don't know how to get weirdest questions that might clear out some complex logics in java..

meanwhile, the other book which I was referring was "A+Programmer's+Guide+to+Java+SCJP+Certification+A+Comprehensive+Primer+3rd+Edition", this is very hard one... concepts are good, but I felt like I was reading some scientific article, sometimes it goes over the head..

okay, lets see how things go, I have read the first chapter, now looking for ways to experiment with that knowledge..
Thanks.

Don't get me started about those stupid light bulbs.
