Just an Intro

Hello all,

I didn't know where to put this since I don't have any specific questions. Although I've dabbled with Java over ten years ago, I'm still new to programming; I am eager to learn everything I can about it. I do find it interesting that the book (Just Java 2 - 6th Ed.) used for the course I'm taking was published in 2004. I guess a lot of coding back then still holds true today.

Anyway, I really enjoy learning to program and I hope to use my knowledge to create ... well ... any program I want, but more specifically I want to create apps for Android phones and tablets. Java looks like it can get complicated and confusing past the beginner stage so I will definitely be asking questions on this forum about things I don't understand.

This is one of the greatest forums I never knew about but wish I had!

Thanks in advance for your future help.

Welcome to JavaRanch! Glad you finally found your way here.

Yes, a lot of what makes Java great was already in place by JDK 1.5, which is the version covered in Just Java 2, 6th Ed. If I were teaching the class, I might have opted for new text, but really JDK 1.6 didn't add all that much new stuff for elementary level programing. Where are you taking the course? Online or live?
