I know from my friends working in some of the top Services companies in India, that Struts is still being used as the framework for building complex web applications

India or anywhere, if it is a widely used framework and has been there for a long time around, then yes it is popular.

dear Authors,
As the description of the book on the Manning website says "This book is designed for working Java web developersespecially those with some background in Struts 1 or WebWork".
Does that mean that this book is geared towards people who already have some experience with Struts?
How useful would this book be for a person who wants to start with Struts?

Thanks in advance

Samrat

I don't know anything about Struts 2 yet, is it really better than Struts 1?

In view of newer framework alternatives, when is it suitable to opt for Struts 2?

"Nature Boi",
Welcome to JavaRanch!

We're pleased to have you here with us here on the ranch, but there are a few rules that need to be followed. One is that proper names are required. Please take a look at the JavaRanch Naming Policy and adjust your display name to match it.

In particular, your display name must be a first and a last name separated by a space character, and must not be obviously fictitious. Initials are OK for the first and middle names but not the last. You can change it here

Accounts with invalid screen names are ineligible to win in any of our book give aways.

Thanks for the warm welcome. I look forward to getting more familiar with the JavaRanch community. I've had an account for some time, but never used it too much.

Struts 2 in Action is definitely a book that someone with ZERO struts experience can pick up. We take pains to explain exactly how everything works. We don't just tell you what to do and let you do it.

I do think that a background in Java web application development will make things easier. But we point you to the right background information when appropriate so that newbies can get up to speed with grace.
