Is it enough to to learn and master one or both ? If one learns one, is it easy to learn the other ?

Spring and Hibernate are different things. Spring is a big library and framework that contains a lot of functionality for many different things - it's more or less an alternative for Java EE. Hibernate is an ORM library - it allows you to map a Java class hierarchy to database tables.

I don't know what your criteria are to determine when it's "enough", so it's hard to say anything about that.

I've encountered Spring and Hibernate often in different projects that I've worked on.

Spring & Hibernate are both entirely different thing. Spring is a big library & Framework. It is a light weight framework software. In spring you can develop any time of application. You can develop stand alone application, web application, distributed application. whereas Hibernate means it maps the java class to database tables
