Hi All,

I am planning to start preparation for CX-311-093 - Java Platform, Enterprise Edition 6 Enterprise JavaBeans Developer Certified Expert Exam but unsure as in from where to start .
Also,I don't know anything about Enterprise javabeans and not able to understand much after reading from "JSR 318: Enterprise JavaBeans TM,Version 3.1" .
Please let me know which study source should I grab first to prepare for the exam.

Hi

You can use "Enterprise JavaBeans 3.1" from O'Reilly, but I encourage you to read the EJB 3.1 specification anyway. It's a Bible for this exam.

Best regards,
MZ

Hi Milkalai,

Thanks for the reply.
Would Head First EJB Book will be useful in preparation for the Exam ?

Nope. It's completely outdated. It was great for EJB 2.1, but useless for EJB 3.1.

Step 1: Read https://coderanch.com/how-to/java/ScbcdLinks first
Step 2: Understand the exam objectives and list down your knowledge level in each area
Step 3: Download EJB 3.1 specification from Oracle site and start reading about Session Bean, Singleton bean and Message Driven Bean. Slowly move to the next chapters once you are comfortable in EJB types.
Step 4: Attend mock exams to tests your knowledge level
Step 5: Keep preparing till you get confidence in each subject areas

Good luck for your preparation!!!

Hello all,
actually I am starting to study EJB.
I just bought Head First EJB but here according to experts the EJB book won't be useful at all.

so should I read it or not? I am a little bit confused.
According to the approach used in Head First series, I thought it would make me understand concepts thoroughly.
so should I read it or not?

Don't read it. Everything has changed in EJB since 2004.

Mikalai Zaikin.
Thank you sir,
seems like I wasted my money on that.

so should I start with the books provided in the SCBCD links?
O'reilly's EJB 3.0 is recommended everywhere.

Note: Java EE6 includes EJB 3.1, not EJB 3.0.
There is a book about EJB 3.1 from O'Reilly as well (and from many others publishers also)

Sorry, buddy, EJB 2.0 knowledge won't help you with EJB 3.1.

Because Java EE6 includes EJB 3.1, not EJB 3.0

That is why Mikalai and rajeswari are stressing on going through EJB 3.1 specification document.

Its free, not very difficult to understand, and most importantly - its the final word for EJB 3.1.

Enterprise JavaBeans 3.1 by Burke et.al. is also a good book - but it will be more helpful during real application development. If you read that book after reading specs, you'll have a crystal clear view of EJB 3.1

I hope this helps.

All the best!

Hello gentlemen,

I have some questions about the content of the exam, if someone can help me it would be really fine.

My question is about the topic Using EJB Technology Best Practices:
- Define best practices and state the benefits of using EJB technology best practices
- Select and apply known patterns to Java EE application design

Which are those best practices and know patterns? Where can I find material on the subject?

There are some other questions, just to be sure:
Do I have to study design patterns?
Do I have to know web services?

I guess that's it.

Thanks for the attention,
I wish success for us all, bye!
