I completed OCA 6 back in January, my hope was to get OCP later. Looking at requirements for OCP 7 now, it requires either OCA7 or any other Professional certification. The question I have is, should I upgrade to OCA 7 first and then attempt OCP 7 Or should I go for OCP 6 and then upgrade to OCP 7? I have not been able to find anything on Oracle site which lays out how to go from OCA 6 to OCA 7 however.

I would be grateful if someone could point me in the right direction.

I would advise going down the OCAJ 7 / OCPJ 7 path because *in theory* it aligns with Java SE 7, which is the current version of Java (i.e., JDK 1.7).

In reality though, after the OCAJ has been repurposed away from the SCJA, the OCAJ 7 is really very close to the OCPJ 6 with only a few features removed from coverage. So, it really is a coin toss in which you choose to tak (OCAJ 7 vs OCPJ 6).

The reality of it is... the K&B book provides *direct* coverage of the OCAJ 7 AND the OCPJ 7. So if you study from that book, you will be prepared for both exams.... actually, all three that you mentioned.

Thanks Robert. It looks like it is possible to ugprade from OCPJP6 to OCPJP7. As such, I will go for OCPJP6 certification. I am doing this because I would like to have a Programmer certification on my Resume, this will certainly assist in landing a better opportunity. I realize that 6 is now considered 'old', but I can upgrade to OCPJP7 at a later date.
