How to open/run ppt/powerpoint files

I am creating a program in java that will open ppt files, but i dont know how to.
iv seen sites that show you how to custimize and edit powerpoint, but never to Run or exute them from java
any tips , on what I can do ?

How to you intend to run these powerpoint files? Usually the file extension in windows will dictate which application to use. .ppt, .pptx etc.

Is this a web app, in which case the files are hosted remotely or stand alone running on the users machine?

You really need to provide some more information so we can help.

Its a Desktop application, it will just excute them not run them

Iv tried using

desktop = Desktop.getDesktop(); and
Runtime.getRuntime().exec("rundll32 SHELL32.DLL, ShellExec_RunDLL " + cc);

e.g.

Desktop.getDesktop().open(new File("C:\\Workshop.ppt"))

but this code keep on bringing up a exception
