I had been developing a web app for quite some time. Earlier I used JPA as my persistence layer, but now I completely migrated it to mongoDB and I made a very good progress within a week of my exploration with mongoDB. I have my app completely up and running against a mongoDB database server running locally on my machine. So far the experience with mongoDB has been very good. I love the morphia library. But hope that they also soon have the possibility to map using xml files. I will be tinkering even more with my mongoDB persistence layer. I'm going to make up my mind not to look at RDBMS anymore.

No, there are more datatypes. I don't know if this is the full list, but at least what I know : String, Number, boolean and object and you can use Long datatype as your id. How do you access mongodb?
