Hi all!
I've got a question concerning the following two exams:
1Z0_899
and
1Z0-858

Which of them makes more sense to pass? Initially I've been preparing myself for the 2nd ("Java Enterprise Edition 5 Web Component Developer Certified Professional Exam") but recently I've realised that there's another the 1st "Java EE 6 Web Component Developer Certified Expert Exam". I'm a bit confused right now what is a better choice since both Exam topics are +- the same. I'm somewhere in the middle of this book:
http://www.amazon.de/Head-First-Design-Patterns-Loukides/dp/0596007124
and I'm considering a purchase of these tests:
http://enthuware.com/index.php/mock-exams/oracle-certified-expert/scwcd-questions
which from the id "Exam Number: 1Z0-858" match rather the 2nd exam but from the name - the 1st. I'm totally lost... if someone could clarify what is what and which certificate is more prospective for the future... I'd be grateful.

thanks in advance!

The general consensus here is to go for the current version of the exam i.e. 1Z0-899 OCE-WCD EE 6. The mock exams for this certification is available at JWeb+ V6 page on Enthuware .

The link that you've quoted for the mock exam is for the older version. The names of both the exams - the old and the new are same except the EE version. Old is EE 5 and new is EE 6. The exam codes are different as well. Whenever you have a confusion, go with the Exam Code. 1Z0_858 is old 1Z0_899 is new. Mock exams for both the certifications show the matching exam code for clarity.

HTH,
Paul.

@Paul

Thanks for your message. Does anyone know if these tests:
http://enthuware.com/index.php/mock-exams/oracle-certified-expert/scwcd-questions

are still valid for 1Z0_899? I'm afraid if the combination of these tests and the exam 1Z0_899 works since the tests were prepared according to 1Z0_858

No, as mentioned on the same page that you've referred, that simulator is for 1Z0-858. There are many differences between the two versions. So it is no good for 1Z0-899. For 1Z0-899, you need this.

This applies to all the mock exams that you may find on the net for 1Z0-858. Do not use them for 1Z0-899.

thanks v. much, that's really precious to know. What about the book I've been reading? Is the content of it OK with the knowledge I need to gain?

Hi Bart,

That book doesn't help you in getting prepared for the exam.

Did you check the ScwcdLinks?

http://www.amazon.de/Head-First-Servlets-Bryan-Basham/dp/0596005407/ref=sr_1_1?s=books-intl-de&ie=UTF8&qid=1343978345&sr=1-1

The second edition of that book is better (published 2008 instead of 2004), but still not targeting the EE6 version of the exam.

Just read the stories in the SCWCD links, they will provide you with more information what is needed to pass this new exam.

Thanks. So the book covers some older stuff but I guess it's not really out of this new SCWCD scope... So I've got a problem either make use of the book I have and prepare myself for the old exam or make extra work apart from the book and take up the new version. Is the new version really more significant on the market and if you were me would you consider still the old scwcd or it makes no sense any more to take up an outdated exam?

Hi Bart,

Always go for the most recent exam, and especially now with the EE6 certifications. You will be more marketable!
