The review of our manuscript - OCA Java SE 7 Programmer I Certification Guide - was successful and thanks again to all JavaRanch members who participated.

(the old thread is here: https://coderanch.com/t/584773/java-programmer-SCJP/certification/OCA-Java-SE-Study-Guide )

Now we are looking for somebody who has recently taken the OCA Java SE7 exam to review the updated manuscript. We are looking for someone who has within the last month or two taken the exam to tell us if what we cover in our book is sufficient.

Please contact me (email is in the profile) or post here.

Thanks!

I took the exam OCA SE P1 and failed miserably today . The fact the my preparation was not upto the mark was quite evident when the exam kicked off.
Lot of basic questions but not direct. There were many easy one's and the core of all the question was basic java, like encapsulation, polymorphism, few questions on overriding vs overloading etc.

The exam has improved a lot from previous SCJP and has made to be bit tougher. 90 questions in 2hrs 20 mins, without good enough preparation will be waste of your time.

I would recommend the following :
1) dig through Kathy Serra SCJP 6 book concepts well. This will give get you atleast 70% right answers.
2) OCA Tutorial : http://docs.oracle.com/javase/tutorial/extra/certification/javase-7-programmer1.html

There were very less or rather no question on Java 7 API's but the focus was on clear understanding of the basics.
Associate exam is worth taking for even expedience architects and leads.

Would I go for it again ?
Yes, definitely yes and with lot and lots of preparation. Speed is the essence here. I feel Oracle is back on track with such improved certifications.

The Comments I received are attached as shown below. Sorry if not that clear.

Yes, OCA is comparable with OCJP 1.6 exam except 2 or 3 chapters.

These are the worst of times and these are the best of times. And this is the best tiny ad:
