Hello,

I am a JAVA/J2EE developer and having 7+ years of experience. I joined my current company 1.8 years back as “Tech Lead”. When I joined this company I had been allocated to the project where, there was no any JAVA work and had to work in Oracle as a developer. I accepted this challenge and worked for 1 year and then got allocated to the another project wherein I am working since last 8 months. Here I have been told that my role would be Team Lead. I started working in this project and was handling the team. But just after 2-3 weeks my manager announced another team member for Team lead role without any intimation or discussion with me, who was having 2 years less experience than me. I shocked that movement but I thought that might be she is more capable to handle the team rather than me. So I accepted my defeat and started working under her as a developer. It has been more than 8 months working in this project but My manager never gives me importance not even talks with me friendly(he talks friendly with others). Sometimes I tried to take new initiative like making new utility program, technical documentation or exploring new things related to the project but he never appreciates to me and moreover when I ask any thing to him he answers it after 2-3 mins even he sits just beside me and doing nothing and sometimes he ignores what I am saying. He appreciates other people but always underestimate to me.

However, I am losing confidence on me .I go office and check my mail whether any task has been assigned to me , if yes I work it. I have lost my interest in my job and stopped taking initiative or doing anything extra because I know that he is not going to appreciate it. Sometime I think to talk with him in personal but then I realize that the person who don’t even talks normally with me will not give any importance to my concerns.

There is a policy in the company where if any employee leaves the company before 2 years than he/she should give around one month salary back to the company. This is my 4th company in my resume and wanted to make some stability in my career but considering current scenario I am unable to take the decision . Nowadays, my behavior has changed and I started acting like dumb. I go to office, if any task is assigned to me then I do it . I have lost interest in my work and rarely talks to the colleagues.

I don’t know what to do. Should I leave the company or let it be continue as usual. I cannot complaint against my manager to any one because he is having good influence in top management. Please advise!!!

Regards
Suri

well, I think you have to directly discuss with your manager whatever you have going trough now and ask the reason what i did wrong from my side. If he is reply you back nicely then it's fine or ask to HRM is there have any another project for in other departments ..this things will be not work out then you have to leave that organisation.

Good Luck!

In four months you are there 2 years. It seems like you wouldn't need to worry about the "salary give back" since it isn't far away.

As far as the work, I agree that you should talk to your manager. You are in a rut an unmotivated. Sharing that you recognize that, might help. Because right now, your manager has to think you have no initiative it all (since you've been acting that way) which isn't going to get you good assignments.

I have never heard of this. Some companies offer joining bonus and will be agreement that, if employee leaves before 12 months, this bonus would be refunded. But, this is something which is not common..

Coming to your situation. You should be talking to your manager, you should have done this when you were replaced as team leader without intimation,at least now you should speak to your manager and see what happens, instead of you assuming he will not listen to you.. even after speaking to your manager, if things doesn't change, its better to look for other projects or move on...
