Hi All,
i wanted to start preparation for SCEA.
there is lot of interesting stuff already there on this forum.
do i need to take this Mandatory course before applying 1st part? if yes then i little bit worried about the cost.
as per oracle site, this is 1st step in SCEA path.

Oracle is being misleading. You need to take a course to *be* certified but can start taking the exam without it.

I don't see the point in putting all the time & money into passing exams but not be certified; defeats the purpose in my opinion

Some people take the exams to learn. Which happens without the cert. And people can legitimately put that they passed part 1 on a resume/CV.

I could learn without doing any exams & save myself the money.

It would be like being the fastest man on the planet but not being able to compete at the olympics because you didn't have the money to fly to the venue; somebody else who isn't as good gets the gold because they had the money.

Of course you can. But sometimes the exam motivates people. You asked why someone might take the exam and not course.

I don't see the point in passing exams to come away without a certification,

I'd rather save myself time & money & concentrate on learning concepts I was interested in like Spring

And that's fine, Everyone has different points of view. Nobody is suggesting you should take the SCEA. However, it is legitimate for others to want to.

If other people want to spend months of their lives & £750 on exams not to get a certification I suppose that is up to them
