Hi I am planning to pass scjp certification but confused which one should i go for? Since i was reading kathy siera 1.5 book for last couple of months. Is it a right decision to give scjp 1.5 exam?

You should write 1.5 exam without being confused later on you can upgrade it with latest.

You can give SCJP 1.6 if you are following cathy sieara nothing matters even if the book deals with 1.5, only two, three heads are added under 1.6.

There's not a lot of difference between Java 5 and Java 6.

However, why would you do an exam for an older version of Java? Java 5 has been obsolete for a few years already and even Java 6 isn't going to be supported anymore by Oracle after February 2013.

Welcome to CodeRanch!

Firstly, make sure that you've gone through Oracle's official OCPJP webpages. There's no such thing as '1.7' - its OCPJP 7.

Secondly, if you don't hold OCAJP7 or any previous version of OCPJP/SCJP, then you are not eligible for OCPJP 7.
