I want to create a excel report using java programming. This excel should be editable after report generation. i went related tutorials for jasper reports but still i need guidance on the below:

1. As per jasper report architecture, design file(.jrxml) is necessary. There are tools (ireports, jasperassistant) available. I downloaded jasper assistant and integrated with eclipse. When i create a new design file (.jrxml) it displays a design window in which i have to drag and drop required components and then it creates a design file. For I required excel format which should contain output in the form of rows and columns. How to proceed?
2. What are required jars to be imported in java project in eclipse?

Please help.

I see that you can use simreport library in link jsimreport.com. It is a smart, flexible library to make excel report in java. You try it by yourself and will feel free to make report.

Why don't you go with POI... it is rather sophisticated to create excels using that.

It is sorta covered in the JavaRanch Style Guide.
