I think your question is rather broad.

I once wrote a java program that pulled the HTML and parsed out the data I need.
Some sites may have an API you can use.
Others may have a FTP site you can get files from.

There are probably dozens of other ways...this is not my area of expertise at all. However, if you ask a very broad question like this, you should expect a very broad answer.
