Hi All,

Apologies in advance as I fear this may be a double post, but after reading thought some previous posts, I'm still confused and would be grateful for any help.

I've been studying the Sun Certified Programmer for Java 6 Study Guide which is for exam 310-065 and I would now like to sit the exam.

Question 1: Is this book still relevant or has it been replaced by an Oracle equivalent?

Question 2: If this book is still relevant what exam code should I book? I think 1Z0-851 (Java Standard Edition 6 Programmer Certified Professional Exam) might be the correct one but I'm really not sure, note that I'm booking through the Pearson Vue website http://www.vue.com/

Many thanks in advance for any help and advice.

~Drew

as you know that after oracle aquired sun, the name of the certifications have been changed to reflect the name of oracle. also the exam code also have been changed. the exam we all know by the name SCJP is now OCPJP .
the programmer version of exam i.e. OCPJP(formerly SCJP) has versions from 4, 5, 6, and the latest 7.

for OCPJP 6 the old code was 310-065 and the new code is 1Z0-851. the book you are studying(scjp study guide by kathy seirra and bert bates) is recommended book for programmer exam. the book is used by thousands to pass the exam. the book is perfectly valid for OCPJP 6. though you should check the oracle site for updated objectives. few of the topics have been scrapped.

also i you want to go for OCPJP 7 , keen in mind that for OCPJP 7 you need to acquire a prior associate certification OCAJ 7. whereas there is NO such requirement for OCPJP 6.

Dear friend,
SCJP 6 would be surely helpul, OCPJP 7 has only some additional topics to learn upon. These new topics would be on Oracle's website soon

Yes, the book is sufficient for OCPJP 6. You can find objectives on Oracle's website.

And Welcome to CodeRanch!
