I watched the first twilight film, it was amusing and diverting, but for totally the wrong reasons "good god could they get more cliched" and suppressing laughter from friend who owns it.

I got in trouble with my wife when I laughed during it.

Having just seen a few clips, I know I could not endure it.

I made the mistake of streaming the Charlie's Angels movie last week. I made it through about half an hour. It lasted long than Speed Racer though -- I only gave that one 15 minutes.

I restiored my sanity by watching the 1937 version of Prisoner of Zenda -- now that's a movie!

Haven't seen any of the Twilight movies. Don't plan to either.
The only acceptable way to portray vampires can be seen in movies like Blade, 30 Days of Night etc.
I think even Underworld does a better job of mixing up vampires and lycans.

And vampires shouldn't be all clean cut and angst ridden, the should be a bit rough and all (must stop typing to calm down)

Twilight vampires live forever and feed on blood. The sunlight don't kill them but make their skin to glitter.

Like other vampires they feed on human blood, but some have self-control and consume only animal blood.

Some can predict your future, and some have special powers like reading others minds (if it fails then you become their life partner).

This kind of shit always grinds my gears. Why does everyone have to be goody goody...so as to fall in line with human nature? It's like asking a lion to keep off hunting. Seen Madagascar?

I do like how they handled that in the Buffy-verse, though. Vampires are demons without a soul, which is why they're evil. Then there are (two eventually) vampires who have their soul restored, which triggers a complete mental breakdown, and eventually leads them to give up on feeding on humans to appease their conscience. Though they are never able to rid themselves of their bloodlust, it remains a constant struggle. They're not goody goody either...

A buddy of mine from way back was once complaining about the Twilight vampires.

"Vampires don't sparkle" he said, with an air of authority.

"Scott", I said, "Vampires AREN'T REAL."

I don't think he ever forgave me.

You might be in the wrong demographic. However, I remember the first 30 minutes containing entirely too much Tom Green. Nobody's in that guy's demographic.

Speaking of demographics, it's not that kids (or tweens) haven't always enjoyed stupid stuff, it's that they have so much more power over the market now. My dad says he used to go to the movies with his mom and willingly sit through a dramatic movie, plus probably a news reel, just for the chance to see a single Bugs Bunny or Tom and Jerry cartoon, and even those were fun for all ages. The idea that the whole movie be completely kid-centric to the point of being repulsive to anyone over 14 would have seemed ludicrous in his day. Now it's the norm. How did that happen exactly?

I joke that as a kid I did what my parents wanted to do, now I do what my kids want, when is it my turn? (ok I may have stolen this joke)

Sometime between the 80s and 00s kids became the centre of many parents universe... I read the netmums website on there you get slated and threatened with social services if you dare to make your kids do something just for you, and then you give them an iPad to keep them still. If you dare to asses risk differently to them.

US Movies have been made for teenagers at least since the 1980s. Tripe like Twilight is aimed specifically at girls from 10 to 15 -- all romance, no sex. Most movies aim for older teenagers, they are the target for all the PG-13 and R rated stuff.

Real adults haven't been regulars at the movies since TV became popular.

Maybe that's because teenagers are the only ones with spendable money these days. The rest of us are paying off our student loans / paying off our mortgages / building up our retirement funds / surviving on inadequate retirement funds.

If we don't have any money, where are our teenagers getting it? Wait, I probably don't want to know.
