Please can any body suggest me which exam i have to take to get a job? I completed my B.tech in computer science department in 2011 and its been 1 and a half year ..still i am waiting for interview calls. Please suggest me which exam i have to take to get the concentration of recruiters ..the exam should also be achevied in a quick time.. Thank you waiting for your response..
I ordered the oca java se 7 Programmer I Study Guide yesterday from Amazon.
It should be arriving today. After passing that exam, I plan to take the 1Z0-804 Java SE 7 Programmer II.
Honestly, you'll probably get hired faster after passing the Programmer II exam but I felt like I needed to take the Associate exam first. You can take those in any order so only you would know which to take first.
Hope this helps. Also, others might have other ideas.
EDIT: Forgot the link: Java SE 7 Programmer
Ideally we would want OCJA 7 but if Mahesh has already put lot of effort and time in preparing for OCJA 5/6 then I would say he has to stick with that exam. He will pass OCJA 5/6 faster than OCJA 7.
He will have at least this certification on his resume quickly and help him in pursuing for a job. Once he gets OCJA 5/6 he can always move forward with OCJA 7.
Going for OCJA 7 right away would take more time (than OCJA 5/6) to catch up with Java 7. His resume will be without any certification until them.

If he pursues a job as a java developer OCAJ5/6 won't help him, because it's not intended for java developers. He will waste 300 dollars for a certification with little (or even none) added value.
I am proposing to get OCJA 5/6 certification NOW, which shows a candidate has some knowledge of Java, and stand out among the other crowd like Mahesh without certification.
I am weighing in on time factor here.

Yes, I am. I took the OCJA 5/6 and when I would be hiring a new java developer I won't consider a person with an OCAJ 5/6 better candidate for the job than a person without this certification. Because the person without the certification can have more Java experience and better knoawledge of the Java API (self-education, programming games,...) than an OCAJ 5/6 certified person. But that's just my opinion.
For an experienced person definitely OCAJ 7 is a better choice as it is pre-requisite for OCP.
What about if you are looking for an entry level person?
Are you willing to hire an entry level person like Mahesh without certification
hire an entry level Mahesh with OCAJ 5/6?
I would definitely go with the later one.
In theory, the difference between OCA 5/6 and OCA 7 should just be the addition of Java SE 7 coverage. This is not the case. The OCA 5/6 is the final leg of the SCJA evolution. But I do I feel that it's a worthwhile test as it's good for the following people:
--> Entry-level and junior programmers wishing to start and/or continue down the path of using Java technologies.
--> Software developers and technical leads wishing to solidify their (very) basic/fundamental Java-related skillsets.
--> Project and program managers wishing to gain a true perspective of the work and challenge of their teams complementary to their planning and direction.
--> Computer Science and information system students wishing to complement their education
--> IT job seekers looking for a slight edge
--> Certification seekers wishing to round out their resume or curriculum vitae with a starting point cert
--> and for those looking to take a feel-good test, easy to pass, as well as getting acquainted with the certification process
In regards to OCA 7, it's ideal for matured programmers & software developers. This means that if you don't know the basic (and intermediate) elements of Java inside and out... you will not pass this test.
If I was looking to hire an entry level programmer, I would hire either an OCA 5/6 or OCA 7 associate, with the obvious preference on the OCA 7 certified individual.
If I was looking to hire someone prepared to hit the ground running (in the Java development world)... I would definitely go with the OCA 7, and more-so the OCP 7 certified person.
In summary, if you are serious about Java, get the OCP 7, but you have to start with the OCA 7 to get there. But if you have the time and the money to use the OCA 5/6 (least resistance path) as a stepping stone / springboard, go for it!
