The java associate certification concerns the basics of Java and OOP, right? Is this certificate useful for experimented java programmers?

Hi,
+1 to this post!

I'm also asking myself if it is useful to take this exam if you have already taken successfully the OCA(old SCJP)?
Thanks

The OCAJP is the new Java 7 exam. It basically is a subset of the old SCJP (now OCPJP). So if you want to become a Java programmer then yes it's suitable.

What you mean by "experimental" Java programmer? If this means "for fun" then is certification necessary?

If you already are SCJP then there's no point to take the OCAJP. Just go for OCPJP upgrade.

One note about the old OCA (v5 and v6). This exam is nothing like the new OCAJP (v7). The old exam (SCJA) is for people who are new to Java, not necessarily for programmers. This thread will give you better idea of the differences between OCA5/6 and OCA7

So when you say "successfully taken OCA (old SJCP)" ... this is wrong. So you better check exactly what cert or exam you took.

Thanks for your answer,
When I say "successfully taken" I mean Oracle Certified Professional, Java SE 6 Programmer.
I will go through the OCAJD(old SCJD) for 2013.

It is really unfortunate that this sort of confusion about the names still exists. There are just too many names and acronyms floating around. Very good answer.

There is nothing like OCAJD. The A in OCA stands for "Associate" and it is the lowest (easiest) level of the exams. The exam that you are probably talking about is a Master level exam and is called OCM JD
