I am new to Java and wanted to know which would be the best book to study for OCAJP 7 while getting a good idea of good practices in JAVA programming.
and weather self study would be enough to clear the exam.

P.S I have just completed my bachelor's in Mechanical and while I have some experience in C#, I lack the basic knowledge a student of IT would have. But i am determined to be a software developer.
So please respond accordingly.

Programming is one of the best ways of learning a new language. Regardless of the book you choose, practice, practice, practice.
