It was really foggy this morning, I couldn't see more than about 50 meters. Now the fog is clearing.

Clearly the old world has gone and it looks like a whole new world now.

Yes, I think that's exactly what happened. The old world was destroyed and we've all been transported to a new one which is identical to the old one.
