For Design patterns you can refer "Head First Design Patterns".
For brief introduction into the topic you can also look at tutorials on the web.

Manning has a book 'The art of java web development', by Neal Ford. Not the most up to date book on new frameworks, but still an interesting read.

The book misses examples and commentary on the newer frameworks such as JSF, Wicket, etc.
