Hi all,
we are developing a web based application called document management system which is being developed using java, springs and hibernate technology.
Here we have a requirement for opening ms word, excel documents in the browser after clicking the document link and then the documents should be editable in the browser itself ,when save button clicked it should get saved on the server. Can anyone please tell how to do this.

with regards,
bukka pavan kumar.

Wow. Word and Excel are powerful applications with oodles of features - how many man-years of development time have you estimated this will take? Although, since you don't know yet how to do it, I guess you can't really estimate it.

Microsoft Office 365 and Google Docs come to mind. What do you hiope to achieve by implementing this yourself? How would it be better than using a desktop office application, or one of those online apps?

we are developing a application called document management system where users will be upload word and excel files. we want to give a provision for users to open the uploaded word and excel files in the browser itself and save it.

I know of no such framework. If such a thing existed I would assume that it had commercial possibilities, and thus would not be free to use.

The Apache POI library would be helpful in opening and saving such files.

Microsoft already offer their SkyDrive cloud-based storage for Office documents etc and you can use SkyDrive to edit Office documents in the browser using MS Web Apps.
Google Apps already provides the ability to store and edit Office-like documents in the browser, or to use Google Apps to sync your MS Office files between clients.
I don't know how much this development project is costing your company, but it might be cheaper to use an existing document management service than re-invent this particular wheel.
