There's an interview at Smithsonian.com with Jaron Lanier, VR pioneer who also wrote "You Are Not A Gadget" protesting against the digital revolution. He's got interesting and challenging things to say about "digital culture" and the consequences of the doctrine that information must be free (to which he used to subscribe), and about the way this benefits big corporations at the expense of individual creative workers. I agree with much of what he says, but I am ambivalent about his concern about anonymity. I can see his point, with terrorist websites and all that, but I could not participate in online political discussions in a tight economy under without a mask lest I risk alienating one half of my potential employers.

I mean, people who put unpopular political bumper stickers on their cars in some California cities often find their cars vandalized.
What do you have in that there bucket? It wouldn't be a tiny ad by any chance ...
