Well, certainly we can improve the +1/tumb-up action by making it AJAX request, but its not there ? I'm wondering the reason behind keeping it the old-fashioned-page-refresh way?

The thumbs-up +1 *IS* implemented via AJAX - there is no page reload. What exactly do you mean?

Yeah, I've noticed it too. The whole page refreshes when I press the thumbs-up button.

Do you have JavaScript disabled? If you have it disabled it will fall back to a page refresh. But it will use AJAX if it can.

It is because you got a JavaScript error folks.

Fix the error and there will be no more refreshing.
