darn the SecurityException .. I had no clue that it existed that must have been the only mistake I made.

I'm a rather experienced programmer, but I really had to prepare for this. I read the not-quite-finished book
oca java se 7 Programmer I Certification Guide
by Mala Gupta

and then did tests from
OCAJP Oracle Certified Associate Java SE 7 Programmer Practice Exams
by H. Deshmukh
the mock tests are more difficult than the exam, which is great.
