Hi All

I invite all coders and intellectuals of Java community for various discussions of ATG framework.

ATG ( Art Testing Group ) started its server Dynamo Appln Server, in 1990's.

We have just started a project on the framework and would like the Java community to help me sort out all my problems which I will face in future. Also if anyone has already worked on it he/she can help me in initial prepartions of project. Also send me some links related to books, material and code of ATG.

Thanks

I'm not sure you are going to get much help with such a broad request. What you'll want to do is ask questions about specific problems and issues. Narrow down what you are trying to find out.

We've provided some wonderful tips on How To Ask Questions On JavaRanch that you might enjoy reading.

Thanks.

Dear Greg

Being a novice and being my first project on ATG I would like to have information on tutorials, ebooks ,books and links related to ATG.

I would also like to have source code of projects, or example sources of ATG code.

Please help me out with the information.

Thanks

I worked on ATG very briefly and found it very difficult to consult any documents as such. Try googling as much as possible. There are no other options left!

I really do not have any material on ATG. The concept behind ATG is something similiar to a combination of ORM / Struts. It is what atleast I feel. I just worked on this by following the already esisting code. I found it easy to use but when you are stuck with some problems then you are lost. It is very hard to get any materials specific to the problem you face. That was ahy I said in my previous post, google as much as possible and that is the only solution.

@Greenhorn: First things first.. its Art Technology Group, and ATG is not very difficult to understand if you are good in Struts and Hibernate. One of the Forum is http://www.nabble.com/ you can try there are 2 more which I dont remember . ATG provides good documentation. Its very detail and very understandable.

If you want any ATG documentation you'll need to take out a support contract with them.

P.S. I hope you don't have to work with an old version that only supports JHTML

Check out http://ourownjava.com/atg/ for good blogs on ATG. I have noticed many good articles about ATG in that site.

Are people out there still using ATG in 2014? I know of a few companies. The last one I worked for still had it, but it seems there are many better options out there now. I'd be really surprised if someone was starting a new stack built on ATG today but what do I know.

As a reply to Scott....and to kind of re-open the discussion
I just got into a project that is developing an application using ATG framework. So looks like yes, people are still using it.

Now my question is....what are the prospects of this framework? I understand Oracle bought ATG sometime in 2011. Has ATG become more popular since then? How widely is it being used today?

Any inputs and thoughts would be of great help. I'm anxious about whether I am kind of screwing up my career by joining this project.

Thanks in advance for your valuable time and input guys

You know, I'd still love to hear anyone weigh in on this. My understanding was that right before Oracle acquired them in 2011, that they were near the end of the process of ditching a lot of the framework libraries, and the Dynamo Application Server, and moving into more of the e-commerce platform space, trying to compete with Magento and the like.
