Head First Java For Beginners?

Hello, I'm new to this forum and this is my first post. I just bought Head First Java 2E and really like it but, I am a true beginner. While I am working slowly and looking up the things I don't understand, this book does assume prior knowledge of some programming language. I don't mind doing the legwork(it's fun) but I wonder if I'm doing myself a disservice by continuing on with this book at this point. I want to make sure I'm not missing any important pre-requisite knowledge. The book does say that this it's not for people with no prior experience. Many reviewers felt, however, that it is suitable for people with no knowledge, so I went for it.

Please chime in and let me know if you feel this is a good route to take or if there is somewhere else I should start.

HFJ is a good book, but as you say, it does require a little programming experience. I suggest you work through the Hello World part of the Java Tutorials and then go back to HFJ. Do tell us how you get on.

Thanks for the reply. I have been able to find sources to help me supplement what I'm learning from the book, including the Hello World tutorial. I'm sure I'll have plenty of questions as I learn more. This is a very cool forum indeed. Cheers!
