Hello,
A google search for "org.apache.tomcat.jdbc.pool.DataSource" led me to org.apache.tomcat.jdbc.pool.DataSource.html.
It mentions that it is an implementation of javax.sql.DataSource Interface. javax.sql.DataSource is an Interface and your appserver or webserver or JDBC service provider would have to implement it to give you the JDBC connections and facilitate the JNDI lookup for location transparency.

Regards,
Amit
