This might be a dumb question, but is there a reason why the DAO pattern is not in Head First Design Patterns? Or is it in there and called something else? I see that the upcoming OCJP 7 study guide will contain DAO and JDBC information, but I was curious if Sierra and Bates have anything currently in print that discusses DAO. Thanks so much!

Hi Matt,
Eric and I decided not to cover any J2EE patterns in the book, and stick to the most used/popular of the original Gang of Four patterns. Hope that answers your question!

Thanks Elisabeth! Do you recommend any good books that cover DAO?

Well back in the day it was Core J2EE patterns (sort of the reference guide from Sun), but these days I don't know. Maybe Kathy and Bert would know?

Other than the Core J2EE Patterns, there's also the Real World Java EE Patterns book, which also discusses where and how this pattern makes sense nowadays.

It is sorta covered in the JavaRanch Style Guide.
