Hello, Can anyone give some information on how long does an Indian IT company keep employee records after separation? Is there any regulation in India with regards to how far back a company can go with regards to background verification?
thanks in advance,

In the US, it varies by company. Now that we have electronic records, I would expect them to be kept for significantly longer. Large companies did this when the records were paper anyway.

The lesson here is to tell the truth when applying for jobs. Then you don't have to worry about something not matching.

The companies can keep the data as long as they want. Moreover, in this era of digital storage, the data can be literally stored and retrieved even after million years! So companies can keep our data even our grandchildren can say like 'Oh I'm excited to work in the comapny my grand pa worked '

As far as background check is concerned, companies can go upto any extent to get information about you. No regulation in India exists about this, so better be honest. If you are honest and nothing to hide, let companies do check anything about you.

Good luck!
