Welcome to the Ranch

I presume by Oracle you mean the database and you are using SQL.
Start with the command‑line type of program, which you can read about in the Java Tutorials. You will need to go to the database’s website to download the appropriate driver.

Campbell, would it be wise for Marcello to directly start with JDBC? He is new to Java programming language. Wouldn't it be better for him if he learns the basic concepts first?

If you are going to use Oracle or other databases, you need JDBC to access them from Java. The tutorial linked to is nice and easy to follow.

Don't get me started about those stupid light bulbs.
