What is the "output" you mention? You definitely can't embed sound in an image. What kind of app is this - desktop app, web app, something else?

OK, so we're talking about a desktop app, and the playing of a sound should be triggered by some event. The JavaSound API (which is part of the JRE) can do that. If you search for "JavaSound introduction" or some such phrase you're bound to find articles that should get you going.
