Hi,

in one of the environment the application server crashes due to the paging space memory usage is

high.. Is this because the load (requests to the application server) is high? Can someone tell me if increasing the RAM memory

will help or is there a memory leak in the application or the memory is not freed up (garbage collection) at regular intervals... i am confused if they are related. Kindly help

Thank you very much

Paging Space High is a sure indicator of depleted CPU resource . But before coming to that conclusion, have you checked the JAVACORE/ HeapDump / native_std.err files.
What do these dump show ??
are there any hung threads?
Do we have a heap fully utilized ?
whats the biggest object size?
Also, check native_std.err file for GC cycle and freed up memory.

Thanks harneet will check for the details...

Is paging space related to depleted CPU or depleted RAM memory?

Its depleted RAM... Paging is the area reserved on the Harddisk and is used when your RAM is consumed. What OS are you using ?
If Windows - then task bar should provide paging info and
if its Linux/Unix then mostly topas or top command works ang gives an idea for RAM usage
also following is useful
egrep --color 'Mem|Cache|Swap' /proc/meminfo
