For request.getSession().setAttribute() we have an annotation @SessionAttribute("") but how do I do session.getAttribute() in a controller? Can anyone tell me. Thanks

you can use request object to obtain the session object in spring controller.
for e.g.
HttpSession session = request.getSession();
session.setAttribute("message","howdy user...!!!") ;

Just pass in the session directly.
