Hi evan,

Welcome to CodeRanch!

I had similar(not exactly same) issue(s) on Ubuntu. Initially I thought that the issue is with Ubuntu (and I was even running eclipse with OpenJDK).

However, after much more searching over the forums, I found that it's not a good idea to install eclipse via repository (besides, that version of eclipse was old).

So I decided to download eclipse from their site and it worked for me.

This issue generally occurs when there's a mismatch between eclipse library version and Java version (typically one is 64 bit and another is 32 bit etc.).

The suggestion I've mentioned might not be very useful, but you can try that workaround (of course, you don't need to uninstall your current eclipse right away).

On another note, any specific reason to use Oracle JDK? (I would use it only to write when the code is to be run in production, and supported on Oracle JDK).

I hope this helps.

HI Evan.

I compared your eclipse.ini to mine and the only thing i have seen is you are using eclipse ee and java 7. May want to give it a try using a java 6 (openjdk-6-jdk)
.

HTH!!!
